Guide to the Birds of Alaska

This 5th edition of Guide to the Birds of Alaska provides information and photographs for all 480 species of birds known to occur in the state. I have added many new photographs, with special emphasis on obtaining photos that best show each species' field marks, or principal identifying features. This 2008 edition also incorporates all the changes in names and systematics made by the American Ornithological Union since the last edition in 1995. I've also updated the status and distribution charts showing the seasonal occurrence of each bird in Alaska's six biogeographic regions.

The Nature of Southeast Alaska

In March 2013, bookstores received the hugely enhanced 3rd edition of The Nature of Southeast Alaska, by Discovery Southeast naturalists Richard Carstensen and Bob Armstrong, in consultation with original 1992 coauthor Rita O’Clair.  Our publisher is Graphic Arts Books (formerly Alaska Northwest Books), in collaboration with Alaska Geographic. Our sweeping revision retains the scope and structure of earlier editions. We deleted color plates of earlier editions, but more than doubled the amount of Carstensen line art—much of it previously unpublished—and integrated graphics more fully with the text.

Guide to the Birds of Alaska 6th edition

This 2015 revision of Guide to the Birds of Alaska provides information and photographs for all 502 species of birds known to have occurred in the state. This edition also incorporates all the changes in names and systematics made by the American Ornithological Union since the last edition in 2008. I’ve also updated the status and distribution charts showing the seasonal occurrence of each bird in Alaska’s six biogeographic regions.

My major purpose in producing this edition was to reduce the cost of acquiring photographs which would allow me to share the book royalties with Audubon Alaska. Thanks to the donations of many photographers this goal was achieved and Audubon Alaska is now a partner in producing this book.
