  • They stay in the lodge for four or five weeks.
  • The mother nurses them for 6-10 weeks.
  • The kits begin to eat plant material when only 2.5 weeks old, while they are still drinking milk.
  • When born the kits weigh about one pound.
  • Several weeks after birth they may weight 6-9 pounds.
  • At this time they start to leave the lodge regularly.
