Foraging in the Fucus

May 4, 2019 | Uncategorized

  • Foraging in the Fucus shows Northwestern Crows looking for food.
  • Many creatures associate with and live in amongst the fucus. I have illustrated a few of these. Try to identify periwinkles, horseshoe crabs, root maggot flies, high cockscomb fish, barnacles, tiny shrimp, copepods.
  • For a great resource for identifying creatures in this habitat look at Intertidal Common Sea life of Southeastern Alaska a Field Guide by Aaron Baldwin & Paul Norwood
  • Information on the effects of an oil spill on this habitat can be found in /sites/default/files/StekollDeysher_FucusrestorationandrecolonizationEVOS_199.pdf
