- Glaucous-winged Gull raises a youngster shows some of their behavior after they leave the nest.
- According to Birds of North America online very little is known about what happens after they leave the nest. The following is some excerps from their report /sites/default/files/information%20on%20glaucous-winged%20gull%20youngsters.docx
- More information can be seen by looking at this report /sites/default/files/UBC_1963_A6_7_V3%20B7.pdf
- I was able to observe the behavior of the youngster and its parents for three days. I suspect it had fledged from the gull colony at Mendenhall Glacier and flown down to saltwater. During this time at least one parent was present and appeared to be trying to protect the youngster from Bald Eagles and to help it find food. Occasionally the other parent would arrive and they seemed to change places. I suspect they still had unfledged young at their nest at the glacier.
