Testing the Raynox 2.2X lens on the Panasonic FZ200 camera is a video showing what it can do at a considerable distance from the creature.
This setup gives you about 2,000 mm extension that looks good. You can go into the Intelligent Zoom to get closer which seems OK for documenting behavior.
This lens and camera are fairly inexpensive and very light weight to carry.
And the camera does well at 120 frames per second which makes it easier to observe what is happening.
The Great Blue Heron is one of this years juveniles. It is mostly feeding on small sculpins in a mudflat in Juneau, Alaska.
I find it interesting that the heron can see such small fish underwater. Especially since they blend in so well with the mud.
